VASTLY experienced forward Jordan Thompson has extended his contract at Leigh Centurions until the end of the 2021 season.

Thompson returned to Leigh in June 2019 from Hull FC having been one of the stand-out players for the Club during the 2018 campaign.

He said: "Obviously it's been an awful year but I was buzzing to be back at Leigh Centurions for 2020. I really enjoyed my time here in 2018 and love pulling on that Leigh shirt.

"Everyone's been on a bit of a downer because the season finished early but now it's all about being positive and trying to get a big pre-season under our belts ready for next year. We will have a lot of the squad from 2020 starting 2021 which means there won't be a need for us to bond and with new players coming in, I'm sure we will gel quickly.

"This is a really good bunch of lads who all know each other and we're looking to start where we left off after winning our opening Championship games in 2020."

Leigh Centurions Head Coach John Duffy was pleased to have Thompson on board for the forthcoming season. He said: "Jordan has a lot of Super League experience and that shows on match days and also during the week in his preparations and approach.

"He brings that knowledge and raises the intensity levels with his professionalism and enthusiasm. He absolutely loves the club and being at Leigh."

Thompson, who turns 29 on September 4, is a product of the Normanton Knights community club and started his professional career in the backline with Castleford for whom he played 77 times, scoring 27 times. He also made five appearances on loan at York. While at Castleford, he even played at full-back, wing and centre, such was his versatility.

Between 2014 and 2017, he played for Hull FC more than 100 times and scored 12 tries.

After signing for Leigh, earning #HN1441 he went on a run of 26 consecutive games before leaving for Leeds where he made six appearances.

Jordan Thompson was sponsored by Fitfield Ltd in the 2020 season.
