LEIGH Centurions will host Atherton Collieries FC players and officials on Friday at the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup Sixth Round tie against Salford Red Devils to recognise another momentous season for our local neighbours.

Last season Michael Clegg's side achieved promotion to the Northern Premier League North, level four of the non league pyramid by winning the championship of the North West Counties League, a fantastic achievement.

To mark this the Collieries were match day guests of Leigh Centurions owner Derek Beaumont and paraded the trophy to rapturous applause in front of the North Stand.

A year later they're back having lifted the Northern Premier League Cup, defeating Coalville Town 2-1 in the final at Alfreton last week.

They're sure to get another fantastic reception when they take to the pitch at half-time on Friday.

Leigh Centurions chairman Mike Latham said: "It's a great privilege to acknowledge sporting achievements throughout our local community.

"There's no better example than Atherton Collieries, a club that has been going for over one hundred years and who have recently achieved their greatest feats.

"Last year we were delighted to honour Michael Clegg and his Colls side to mark their achievement in winning the championship of the ultra competitive North West Counties League and promotion into the Northern Premier League.

"This season Colls have not only consolidated in the league, known as EVO-STIK North, finishing in a highly creditable mid table position at level four of the non league pyramid, but have also achieved the wonderful honour of lifting the League Cup, known as the Integro League Cup ahead of the other 67 teams in the league.

"The Colls players, staff and officials are guests of honour of Leigh Centurions and at half-time will undertake a lap of honour with the cup around the ground. They will get a fantastic reception from the fans to acknowledge a great sporting achievement.

"I know Derek rates Michael Clegg highly and was delighted by the team's success. It's brilliant to hear that each and every member of the Colls squad have accepted our invitation and will be at LSV. Let's raise the roof!"
