A fighter dubbed 'Britain's worst boxer' for notching up just two wins in ten years has hung up his gloves for good - to try his hand at BAREKNUCKLE BOXING, writes Ben Cusack.

'Rockin' Robin Deakin reckons he's more than up to the task and is swapping getting hit with padded gloves for bare fists - after being given encouragement by Tyson Fury.

The 32-year-old had a promising start to his boxing career when, in 2006 he won his debut professional fight, against Shaun Walton.

But the fighter struggled to find his feet in the ring and lost 51 consecutive fights before finally securing his second victory, in 2015.

Robin, who lost his BBBC licence because he kept getting bashed around the ring, hung up his gloves last year after 55 bouts, and only two wins.

He said: "Last year I was with my girlfriend and we decided to settle down and start a family.

"I needed to be more secure, so that's why I retired.

"But I didn't really want to, and when we split up, I decided to get back into boxing.

"Tyson Fury gave me a ring and he told me that I should try bareknuckle boxing.

"It's the new big thing and I can take a hit, so I thought 'why not?'

"I've been training ever since - I don't think I've ever been in this good shape before."

Robin, from Tilbury, Essex, is fighting on Saturday night at the BKB13 at indigo at The O2 in Greenwich.

He will be fighting against Connor McIntosh at a 140lb catchweight - and the plucky pugilist will have 'Britain's Worst Boxer' emblazoned on his green shorts.

Robin said: "I've been training every day - seven days a week, total dedication.

"Tyson gave me some advice and I've been training more now than ever before.

"His advice made me think - he gave me the nod to do what I want and I'm thinking a lot more about my training.

"I won't be there on Saturday night to make up numbers, I'm there to fight. I'm there to win, and I'm there to make a massive impression.

"This time I'm going to win. I'm going to take over and I know I'm going to win - at least, I hope I'm going to win.

"I'm a fighter, this is what I do."

Robin will be supported on Saturday night by British boxing manager and promoter Kellie Maloney, who understands the importance of his victory.

She said: "He knows he's not just surviving and going for another payday.

"If he loses, it's the last chance.

"He's got everything on the line - and he has got to deliver.

"He has to lose his tag as 'Britain's Worst Boxer.'

"It is essential he wins."

Kellie shot to fame as Lennox Lewis' manager, who led him to becoming the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World.

She added: "I'll be ringside. I'll be in his dressing room before. I'm going to be flying from my home in Portugal to support Robin.

"I'm inquisitive about the sport.

"I've still not made my mind up about bareknuckle boxing, but I'll support Robin."

Tickets for the Saturday night bout are priced from £40 to £100.
