Wigan Athletic have ended their interest in Blackburn Rovers midfielder Robbie Savage.
Stories were circulating that Latics manager Paul Jewell had made an offer to the player himself and that Savage had turned down the chance to join Wigan, but Jewell was quick to nip those rumours in the bud.
He said: "That's not true. We did ask Blackburn about Robbie through the correct channels, because he's a player I thought would be a good addition to our squad, but Blackburn said he was not for sale.
"That's as far as the conversation went. We never spoke to the player, we didn't make him a wage offer and as far as I'm concerned the matter's closed.
"We move on to other targets."
