ACCRINGTON Stanley are not just topping the League Two table, but the clean sheets charts too.

The Reds cannot be beaten for shut-outs going into the last game of the season, with 19, two ahead of Cambridge United and Luton Town, who both have 17 from their 45 league games.

But although promotion was secured more than two weeks ago and the title wrapped up last weekend, Stanley still have their targets, with goalkeeper Aaron Chapman and defender Janoi Donacien keen to round up their shut-out tally to 20 on the final day.

“We’ve got 19 clean sheets so that speaks for itself how well the boys have done, as a whole team,” said Donacien.

“We’ve done so well this year it would be good to round it off with another.”

Chapman, an almost ever-present this season, added: “I have kept 19 clean sheets.

“If someone had said to me at the start of the season I would play 19 games I wouldn’t have believed them, never mind keeping 19 clean sheets.

“I need to thank the gaffer for putting his trust in me.”

Stanley’s 19th shut-out coincided with the Reds being crowned League Two champions thanks to a 1-0 win over Lincoln City.

John Coleman’s side could have won the title away to Newport County a few days earlier, but their 15-game unbeaten run ended in South Wales meaning the Reds instead lifted the silverware in front of their own fans.

“I won League Two with Chesterfield but never played so this means so much more,” said Chapman.

“It’s been so great to be a part of this, the players are great. To be fair, anyone could play in goal with these players in front of them!

“I just can’t even describe it, it’s relief, joy, it’s so hard to put into words.

“The scenes after the game were just unbelievable, you could see how much it meant to everyone.”

Donacien added: “We knew what they (Lincoln) were going to do because so much was riding on this game. It was just a mad game of football.

“It’s absolutely the best feeling I’ve had in my life, winning the title.

“Before the start of the season we were talking about (promotion) but now it’s actually happened.”
