STANLEY boss John Coleman admits the chance to clinch the League Two title in front of home support is a huge motivating factor heading into tomorrow’s clash with Lincoln City.

The Reds need just a point to lift the trophy, which will be at the Wham Stadium to be presented to the squad should Stanley pick up a positive result.

Having secured promotion with a home win over Yeovil last week, and with a large crowd expected for the final home game of the season, Coleman is keen to get the job done.

Stanley will be champions regardless of their result if Luton drop points at Forest Green Rovers while the Reds would have a final chance to earn the point they need at Swindon Town on the final day should results go against them this weekend.

But Coleman is not thinking about a tense final day, instead he is promising a positive performance against an Imps side who need a point to mathematically secure their place in the play-offs.

Asked if it would feel special to secure the title on home turf the Reds chief said: “Of course it would and we will be going all out to do that. We have a lot of belief in ourselves.

“We have been the form team for three months, we’ve had a little dip (losing at Newport on Tuesday night), Lincoln are the current three-week form team and they have embraced winning the Checkatrade Trophy and the euphoria of success and are trying to prolong it, just as we are trying to prolong going from promotion to title winners.

“I can see it being a cagey affair but also quite open. Both teams will go and try to win the game. We are not going to play for a draw that we need, people who know me know that is not my style and if it was my style I would probably have tried to do it at Newport.

“I couldn’t bring myself to set up a team to draw a game so we will be going all out to win.”

Lincoln are expected to be cheered on by a large away contingent and Coleman is confident the home fans and his players will relish the charged atmosphere.

“I love games like this when teams bring a big following,” he added. “It generally brings out the best in us and brings the best out of supporters.

“To have a 4,000 plus gate which is likely for Saturday then it will be a magnificent occasion.

“These are the days that we’ve craved for years so we have to embrace them and not fear them.”
