BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche believes Clarets winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson can impress at this summer's World Cup.

The wide-man will be a key player for Iceland as they travel to Russia for their first appearance in the tournament.

The Scandinavian side have been handed a tricky group alongside Argentina, Croatia and Nigeria but having impressed at Euro 2016, where they knocked out England in the second round, Gudmundsson and co will travel confident.

And Dyche believes the 27-year-old possesses plenty of potential after a super season at Turf Moor while believing he is developing into a strong character on the pitch to go with his strong performances.

He said: "I don’t think it’s about personalities, it’s about performances, and Johann’s internationally have been top drawer, so he can certainly deliver.

“I think you form a personality from years of being a great player and Johann is on the way.

“I still think he’s improving, and moving forward, but he’s showing strong signs of being a presence and personality on the pitch."

Gudmundsson played 90 minutes for Iceland in a 2-2 draw with Ghana on Thursday night.

Iceland begin their Group D campaign against Argentina on Saturday afternoon before facing Nigeria on June 22 and ending their group campaign against Croatia on June 26.
