Emile Heskey has admitted he will consider leaving Aston Villa in January in a bid to secure his place in the England squad for next summer’s World Cup.

The striker, who only joined Villa from Wigan at the start of the year, has started just one Premier League match this season.

“I’m happy to be playing for England and not playing at club level is difficult,” he said. “It’s something I will have to look at when I get back and try to address it.”

Asked whether that meant he would seek a move, Heskey said: “That’s what I mean. I will have to sit down and think about my next move.”
