ROSSENDALE Harriers were the only club to get two finishers in the first ten at the Bull Hill Fell Race, and it was their packing which gave them the team prize ahead of Darwen Dashers.

Nick Leigh from the Pudsey and Bramley Club was clearly the class of the field stretching away to win the 5.5-miler by exactly three minutes in 35:06.

In-form Matt Nuttall from Blackburn Harriers, in second, was himself a further minute clear of the pack, while New Zealander Danny Headifen was fourth for Darwen Dashers in 39:12.

Veterans Mark Ellithorn of Chorley Harriers and Rossendale Harrier Richard Stott were second in the over 40 and over 45 classes as tenth placed Ken Taylor won the over 55s for Dale.

Gary Sumner in 14th rounded out the Rossendale squad as Mark Walsh and Simon Fox brought the Dashers home.

The Hawkshaw venue saw a new women's record for Wigan Phoenix athlete Debbie Culshaw who lopped over two minutes off the second year old mark with 42:28.

Zoe Haslam of Darwen just missed second behind veteran Clare Kenny as Nicola Raby of Chorley Harriers placed fourth with Dasher Jackie Shaw fifth.
