Former Pendle and Burnley Grand Prix champions Tom Cornthwaite of Blackburn Harriers and Candice Leah from Clayton Harriers made their first GP appearances of the season at the Barley Fell Race, and each took victory.

Fell specialist Simon Thompson was second man to add to his win in the Kelbrook Fell Race, but is another who can't feature in the series as eight races out of nine must be completed.

Bowland's Lee Passco and Brent Hoggan from Accrington Road Runners were third and fourth in the six miler to remain first and second in the series after five events.

Women's leader Andrea Wainscott was fourth on the day but had her lead reduced to five points as fellow Clayton Harrier Jane Murphy made third.

In the veteran division, Accrington's Barbara Savage fell out of contention after missing her second race of the summer to leave Clayton Harrier Irene Roche in the clear.
