MICHEL Salgado believes Blackburn Rovers could be facing a vulnerable Arsenal side on Saturday – but he has warned that results are needed away from home if Premier League safety is to be assured.

Rovers travel to the Emirates on the back of six straight away defeats and Salgado knows that record must end quickly, with Steve Kean’s side currently just one point clear of the Premier League relegation zone.

A visit to Arsenal is normally one of the most daunting fixtures of the season but the title-chasing Gunners are not exactly full of confidence at the moment either, having endured a nightmare month that has seen them exit all three cup competitions and only draw their last two league fixtures.

Cesc Fabregas hopes to return from injury for Arsenal on Saturday but fellow Spaniard Salgado thinks Rovers must go to North London believing they can get a result.

“It’s a very difficult game against Arsenal but they are not in the best moment,” said the 35-year-old.

“They lost the final against Birmingham in the Carling Cup, they went out of the Champions League against Barcelona and out of the FA Cup against Manchester United so we have to go there with confidence.

“The Premier League is very tight and really demanding, and now it is the best league in the world.

“We have to be aware of that and we need to get points away from home.

“All the teams are getting points away from home and this is our job, to get points away from home.”

And Salgado insists Rovers will not allow the nerves of a relegation battle to affect their performances in the coming weeks – despite taking two points from their last six league games.

“The feeling in the dressing room is we don’t panic,” he told Rovers Player.

“The situation is the same for all the teams in this battle.

“From eighth position there is a difference of six, seven or eight points.

“If you win two games in ths league you are thinking about Europe.

“I remember we were talking about Europe just after beating West Brom away from home and beating Liverpool at home, so don’t panic.

“We have a good squad and I think we are doing the right things because I think we deserve more points.

“We have to calm down and keep going. If we do things like that we are going to find the way to turn things around with our football.

“We need our fans behind us because our four games at home very important.

“And to be honest we need some luck because if you analyse the last five games i think we deserve more points.”
