I’m sure all Rovers fans have been having the same conversation that I’ve been engaged in since the Blackpool game.

Are we going to get the three wins that we will probably need to survive and where are we going to get them from?

I would class myself as a realistic optimist but I’m having difficulty convincing myself that we’ll come out on top of three other clubs who are among the 11 or 12 teams who are still in danger of the drop.

Everyone connected to the club is making the right kind of noises, exuding confidence that Rovers will do what’s necessary.

But what all of our relegation rivals have over us is the little matter of current form.

Should Rovers achieve a similar return from our next seven games as the last seven then it goes without saying that by the time we meet Wolves at Molyneux on the final Sunday, our fate will already be sealed. Logically and realistically therefore there’s little cause for optimism. Fortunately football doesn’t always follow logic and in those conversations I’ve been having, some hopeful signs emerge.

Maybe we’ve had our bad run while others that have been rallying won’t be able to keep it going. Injuries and suspensions will play an as yet unknown role and maybe we will benefit from those.

At least when we play Wolves and West Ham away and Birmingham at home, that gives us the opportunity to put distance between us and others at the bottom.
