Burnley began training in Italy today ahead of tomorrow's friendly against an Italian League XI side at their base at Sport Hotel Veronello, near Bardolino.
Burnley were originally scheduled to face Recreativo Huelva, but the game was cancelled at late notice after the Spanish Primera League side requested a delayed kick-off to Wednesday.
With a friendly against Italian minnows US Alense penned for Friday, Cotterill declined the request as he wants the maximum recovery time for his players.
Cotterill said: "I didn't want the boys playing two games in three days.
"I think it's ridiculous when it happens in the season, so when you have a choice in pre-season, you have to do what you feel is best.
"If the Tuesday game out there happens to be cancelled then we will let our supporters come in and watch us train."
