ACCRINGTON Stanley’s striker search is developing an increasing sense of urgency with fitness doubts over the only two recognised forwards at the club.

Stanley lost front men Michael Symes, Billy Kee and Bobby Grant in the summer and have so far brought in Craig Lindfield and Rory Boulding, with Reds boss John Coleman keen to sign two more strikers.

And that need for more forwards was illustrated when Boulding was forced off with a thigh problem in Stanley’s 2-1 friendly win at Southport – with Lindfield already out with a knee injury.

The Reds are nine days away from their first match of the League Two season and, although they do have the option of utilising Andy Parkinson or McConville up front, both are more used to playing in wide roles.

Stanley, who have taken former Tranmere midfielder Charlie Barnett on trial and travel to AFC Fylde for a friendly tonight, have received confirmation from the Football League that their annual accounts have now been received. The Football League want clarification on a couple of issues but the club hope their transfer embargo will be lifted imminently and are keen to start signing players from Monday.

The Reds are likely to start the season without a stadium sponsor after negotiations over a possible deal fell through – with the club unhappy with the money being offered.
