ROBBIE Blake is understood to be ‘50/50’ about whether to stay at Burnley after being given a week to decide his future.

Blake has been offered a new deal at Turf Moor, with his contract due to expire in June, but had suggested a month ago that there was only a ‘slim possibility’ he would remain at the club next season because of concerns about whether he will be a regular in the side.

The 34-year-old is understood to have received tentative enquiries from other clubs, including Scottish Premier League club Hearts, but intends to make a decision over his Burnley future before even contemplating offers from elsewhere.

And, having already revealed how much of a wrench it would be to leave the Clarets, he is giving serious consideration to staying at the club – with the chances of him signing a new deal now said to be ‘50/50’ rather than minimal.

Blake had opted to delay his final decision until after the last game of the season against Tottenham on May 9 but has been unable to give the situation further thought during the past week after his son, born only a few weeks ago, was taken ill and only returned from hospital on Friday.

The Clarets are keen for Blake’s future to be resolved within the next week, with the club needing to switch their sights elsewhere if the attacker opts to depart.

Blake, while yet to make a decision, is said to be understanding of Burnley’s situation and contact is expected be resumed between the player’s representatives and boss Brian Laws today.

Blake’s doubts over whether to remain at Turf Moor have come after he started just four of the 18 league games after Laws took over from Owen Coyle as boss, although the former Sheffield Wednesday manager is keen for the fans’ favourite to stay and has insisted he will be a firm part of his plans in the Championship.
