THE Lancashire League’s top two collide at Bentgate tomorrow – but skipper Graham Knowles believes the scheduling of Haslingden’s derby with Ramsbottom is totally wrong.

Knowles’ Haslingden are top of the tree with six wins from their six games and they lock horns with second-placed title favourites Ramsbottom in the Saturday showdown to savour.

But Knowles insists the game should not be scheduled for a Saturday, when crowds are traditionally smaller than Sundays.

“It’s ridiculous if you ask me,” said Knowles. “It is hard enough to get crowds in and it doesn’t help when your big game is on a Saturday.

“I know it is hard work fitting matches in and I know other teams are in the same boat – but I really think that the league should schedule the big games for Sundays but as it is we have to get on with it.”

Knowles is happy enough with Haslingden’s start, a run that has seen six wins from six including last weekend’s success at reigning champions Accrington.

But he knows that with just a quarter of the season gone there is a long way to go and much cricket to play.

“It’s been a decent start but nothing is won yet,” he added.
