KART star Wesley Robinson blew away all competition at Daytona Manchester for the Vauxhall VXR Challenge.
The race, which pitted teams of four against each other in a Le Mans style team endurance format, challenged drivers to complete as many laps as possible in the two and a half hour allotted time period.
Having joined a friend’s team at the last minute, Robinson was left overjoyed when his lap time of 24.672 seconds was announced as fastest of the day, securing him a place at the VXR Power Festival at Silverstone in August.
“I couldn’t believe it when they told me. I knew I’d gone fast but I wasn’t aware it was that fast, nor was I aware of the prize for winning. It’s absolutely fantastic.” he said Robinson will now spend the August Bank Holiday being trained to be a racing driver before taking part in a VXR race alongside top drivers including 2001 British Touring Car champion and TV presenter, Jason Plato.
“I’d like to thank both Daytona and VXR for a fantastic day and the opportunity to fulfil one of my dreams,” added Robinson, who’s been kart racing since the age of eight.
