Burnley have made enquiries about taking young Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey on a season-long loan.

The 23-year-old Wales international has built a good reputation in his fledgling career, breaking a 119-year-old Football League record while on loan at Stockport County in 2007 after keeping nine consecutive clean sheets.

However, he has become increasingly frustrated at being second choice to Marcus Hahnemann, and his situation is unlikely to change next season after the experienced American signed a new one-year deal.

With the Midlands side said to have tabled a bid for Burnley striker Steven Fletcher yesterday, Hennessey could be offered as bait.

Brian Laws is in the market for another stopper, despite offering Brian Jensen a new two-year contract.

Former Manchester City goalkeeper Nicky Weaver was brought in as back-up during the January transfer window, but only until the end of the season and he has since been allowed to leave.

In addition, Owls goalkeeper Lee Grant has ruled out a reunion with Laws, insisting he is happy at Hillsborough despite suffering relegation to League One on the final day of the season.

“I am totally committed to Sheffield Wednesday,” he said. “Speculation is part of the game. As far as I am concerned, I’ve still got two more seasons on my contract so until someone tells me otherwise that is what I will be concentrating on.

“There will be no transfer requests or sulking from me,” he said.
