BRIAN Laws believes Darren Bent should be on Fabio Capello’s checklist and the plane to South Africa this summer.

Seven of the Sunderland striker’s 22 goals so far have come in the last seven games, including a hat-trick against Bolton Wanderers last month which emphatically ended a run of 14 games without a Premier League win.

But Laws is determined to put a dent in the 26-year-old’s World Cup chances and keep the Black Cats’ dangerman quiet tomorrow.

“Darren Bent’s on fire,” the Burnley boss noted.

“He looks like he’s determined to prove himself to the England camp and he’s got four games to get himself into the squad, and I think he’ll probably be looking at ourselves to see if he can get among the goals.

“I think if you’re looking for anybody who’s in current form and scored over 20 goals, he’s your man.

“He’s got power, strength, pace. What more do you want from a current England international?

“You see him week in week out, he always creates opportunities for himself.

"He’s scored half of their goals. Where would they be without him?

“He’s a massive player for Steve (Bruce) and he recognises that.”
