A controversial late goal denied the Clarets a hard-earned point as league leaders Preston won 3-2.
Two Michael King goals, including one from the penalty spot, had given Burnley a half-time lead at Gawthorpe yestersday.
But a double from Ryan McGreevy inside the last 20 minutes took the side coached by former Clarets defender Jamie Hoyland to within one more win of the title.
Burnley: MacDonald, Williams, Woods, Yadolahi, McEneaney, King, McKee, Lynch, T Taylor (Wilson 73), Newman (Jackson 63), Knowles. Subs: Cook, Edwards.
