KICK boxing ace Daniel Battrick has landed the British title at a packed out New Era Club in Accrington.

The 11-year-old produced a near faultless display to beat Scottish champion Ryan Robertshaw on points.

The St Oswald’s Primary School pupil adds his British crown to his three English titles and now he will be looking to add the European belt to his growing collection.

“It was his hardest fight but it was also his best fight,” said proud dad Billy who is also his coach and runs Fit To Fight Kickboxing Club. “I might be his coach but Daniel deserves all the credit because he has worked extremely hard to earn it. He has trained four and five days a week and this is just reward for that.”

The five round contest went all the way but young Battrick was always in control against the fighter from the Scottish Highlands.

He knocked him down in the third round with a stunning jab and grounded Robertshaw again in the fourth with a side kick to the chest.

Both fighters went toe-to-toe in the last round but Battrick rightly got the judges’ decision to win the World Kick Boxing Association British full contact title in his age group - much to the delight of the majority of the 500 spectators.

“You have to give credit to Ryan. He was put down twice but he kept on coming back and the last round was a real cracker,” said Battrick Senior. His son boasts an impressive record of 40 wins and four defeats, although the loses all came against older fighters. Daniel will now take a well earned rest before deciding what to do next - although Battrick admitted it might be difficult to keep him away from the Back Wellington Street club.

“He has been training solidly so it is time for him to take a rest,” said Battrick, who runs the Fit to Fight club with his wife Tracy. “The problem is he wants to keep on competing. There is a show next week and he wants to go to that.

“But it is time to take a break and decide what to do next. The governing body are keen for him to fight abroad for a European title so we will have to wait and see what happens next.”

Daniel took up kick boxing when he was six-years-old. He won the English schoolboy title and then added the WKO English title last year.
