BURNLEY’s new strip has been revealed at an exhibition which charts the highs and lows of the club over the last 100 years.

The kit, which will be worn by the team next season, is the centrepiece of the 100 Years of Claret and Blue exhibition at Towneley Hall.

Created by Puma, the new centenary home shirt features the club’s new sponsors, Fun88.com - an online casino.

It will be joined in the exhibition by all 34 claret and blue shirts worn by the Turf Moor club over the last 100 years.

A century ago, the club decided to ditch their supposedly unlucky green kit for the claret and blue worn by the then First Division champions Aston Villa.

The exhibition, in the Long Gallery at Towneley Hall, will include every notable shirt from the club’s illustrious past.

A reproduction of the first shirt following the change from green to claret and blue in 1910 is at the heart of the collection.

The will also be a reproduction of the 1914 FA Cup final shirt worn at Crystal Palace in the 1-0 victory over Liverpool – the only time the club has lifted the most famous trophy in English football.

The shirt worn when the Clarets last lifted the First Division title in 1960 will be displayed, along with Brian Miller’s shirt from the 1962 FA Cup final against Tottenham Hotspur.

Other Clarets legends Jim Thomson, Andy Farrell and Ashley Hoskin have donated notable shirts from their eras.

Jim’s shirt bears the old BFC crest between 1969-75 while Andy’s shirt was worn in the 1988 Sherpa Van Trophy final at Wembley.

And the landmark moment Burnley survived becoming the first team ever to be relegated out of the Football League is commemorated by Ashely’s shirt, worn in the famous Leyton Orient game at Turf Moor in May 1987.

The exhibition is free for Burnley residents, children, students and season ticket holders, from 9am today (Saturday) to Friday April 30.

Everyone else will have to pay the normal entry fee of £3.50.

A souvenir programme costing £5, featuring glossy photographs of all the shirts and a short biography of each, will also be available.
