BLACKBURN manager Mark Hughes is willing to bide his time in the transfer market as he looks to bring in the players capable of taking Rovers on to the next level.

While Premiership rivals Tottenham Hotspur have already splashed out more than £10 million on new signing Dimitar Berbatov, Hughes has chosen to keep his powder dry so far, with chairman John Williams confirming the club have yet to make a formal bid for any player during the close season.

Ideally, Hughes would like to get his transfer business done sooner rather than later' so any new signings can bed in during Rovers' pre-season trip to Germany at the end of July.

But if Hughes has to play a longer game over the summer in order to get in the players he wants then he's quite prepared to sit and wait for the transfer merry-go-round to kick into action.

"There have been discussions between me and Mark about potential signings but we've not made any offers for anyone at this moment in time," said Williams.

"Right now, it's a case of identifying specific targets and then deciding how we want to proceed."

Rovers have not divulged the exact amount Hughes will be given to spend on new faces, but the manager has presented a list of targets to the board and the club have vowed to back him as far as they possibly can do.

The recruitment of a proven strike partner for Craig Bellamy remains the top priority, and Eidur Gudjohnsen, Emile Heskey and Benni McCarthy have all been linked with a switch to Ewood in recent weeks.
