ACCRINGTON Stanley manager John Coleman could take the Conference champions to the continent as part of an already impressive pre-season programme.

The Reds boss is looking into the possibility of organising a training trip abroad as he prepares his squad for an assault on League Two.

A destination has yet to be finalised, but with Blackburn Rovers jetting off to a training camp in Germany, and Burnley heading to Lake Garda at the end of July, Coleman is hoping to continue the trend now Stanley have made up a trio of East Lancashire Football League clubs.

"It's still up in the air at the moment but hopefully we will be able to go abroad," said Coleman.

Should his plans not materialise, though, the Stanley boss is pleased with the friendlies that have so far been arranged including July meetings with Rovers and the Clarets although the friendly at home to Bradford City, scheduled for July 12 has been cancelled.

"We've got some good games at home, and we're going to go to a couple of decent ones as well, at Southport and Northwich," said Coleman, who has been busy trying to identify summer transfer targets.

And he admitted his main aim at the moment is securing the services of Charlton goalkeeper Rob Elliot for a full season.

The 20-year-old has signed a contract extension with the Addicks along Darren Randolph, who also had a loan spell with Stanley last season but could still return to the Fraser Eagle Stadium.

"I want to try to sort the goalkeeper situation out first," he said. "Charlton are 99 per cent certain we can have Rob for next year.

"Their management situation (with Alan Curbishley leaving) is something we've had to deal with but we've spoken to the club and Rob's agent and I would like him back for next season."

He added: "I'm trying to sort a few (more players) out and hoping to speak to a couple this week.

"There haven't really been any surprises on clubs' retained lists.

"People who get released do so for two reasons. Either they want too much money or they're not good enough.

"That's not to say there aren't good players out there.

"But the difficulty at the moment is trying to separate the wheat from the chaff."

Meanwhile, Coleman revealed he is still waiting to hear from defenders Michael Welch and Leam Richardson, who have both been offered new deals.

Full back Danny Ventre has agreed terms and is expected to sign a new contract when the players return for pre-season training on June 26.
