DELIGHTED Ramsbottom chairman Rod Hamer is hoping his men can take their Worsley Cup form into the league as they bid to arrest a slide down the table.

Rammy roared into the final of the showpiece on Sunday as they beat Church in a late finish at Acre Bottom.

And while the August 9 date with Haslingden/Todmorden is Ramsbottom’s fourth final of the 21st century, Hamer said: “Sometimes I wish we would take our cup form into league matches.

“We have not been consistent enough this season and even when we were riding high in the early stages of the season, I felt it was papering over the cracks.

“There has been a lot of pressure on the professional (Brenton Parchment, right,) and often he has been going in to bat in the first or second over.

“That has often curbed his natural game and we have suffered.”

But Hamer is delighted to be in the final again and added: “It’s a great day.

“The semi-final win over Church was quite a late one because of the rain in the afternoon but it was worth it in the end.

“We had a decent crowd on and, although not as big as in recent years, you rely on thsoe days to bring the revenue in.”

There was a scare for Acre Bottom officials, though.

Power was lost for a brief time with the scoreboard and bar affected.

“We have a generator at the moment while we get a new power supply,” said Hamer.

“Someone turned off the fuel line and the lights went out in the bar and the new electronic scoreboard went off.

“But thankfully the problem was sorted in about 10 minutes and we didn’t lose any play.”
