ACCRINGTON Stanley boss John Coleman has backed his Primark bargain buy Sean McConville to turn into a fully fledged designer item.

The Stanley chief brought the 19-year-old nephew of assistant boss Jimmy Bell to the Fraser Eagle Stadium from non-league Skelmersdale United on transfer deadline day.

He had been hunted by League One pair Stockport County and Brighton thanks to his exploits in non-league - but opted for a move to East Lancashire instead.

McConville quit his job at Primark in order to take up a full-time contract with the Reds and made his full debut in the Tuesday night draw with Luton Town after a couple of impressive showings from the bench.

He almost enjoyed a dream start when he went close to a goal - but despite that miss, Coleman liked what he saw.

“Sean is a good player,” he said. “He has some nice touches and played some good balls on Tuesday night.

“It was a shame that he missed the chance in the first-half and maybe he snatched at it because of a few nerves because it was early in the game.

“But all strikers miss from time to time. You just want them to be in that position to get the chances.

“He tired towards the end and that is understandable because he has made a big step up from the UniBond into League Two.

“But there is one thing for certain and that is that Sean will become a better and better player with the more games that he plays.”
