BLACKBURN Rovers striker Jason Roberts is at the centre of a police investigation after a 17-year-old was allegedly assaulted.

Officers were called to Coventry City’s Ricoh Arena after the Championship side dumped Rovers out of the FA Cup on Tuesday.

A Coventry City fan was allegedly hurt in a post-match bust-up outside the stadium.

No arrests have been made and police said witness statements are being completed before any possible action is taken.

Roberts was boarding the team bus after the 1-0 replay defeat when it is understood a comment was made from a group of fans nearby.

Police said they were investigating claims that an incident then followed in which a teenager was assaulted.

A Blackburn Rovers spokesman said: “There was an incident where Jason Roberts and several other Blackburn players were being shouted at and taunted.

“It is now a police matter and we can make no further comment.”

It is understood that the players were on the receiving end of abuse mocking them for Rovers’ poor league position and failing against the side in the lower league.

A West Midlands police spokesman said: “Officers were called to reports of an assault on a 17-year-old lad outside the Ricoh Arena.

“The allegation concerns an incident outside the ground following the FA Cup match between Coventry City and Blackburn Rovers.

“Officers are conducting inquiries into the matter and no arrests have been made at this stage.”

It is understood the Blackburn bus had departed before officers arrived.

Roberts has connections to Coventry City - his uncle is legendary Sky Blues striker Cyrille Regis.

Anyone who saw the incident is asked to call Stoney Stanton Road police station on 0845 113 5000.
