This was certainly a game of two halves. In the first-half Colne had enough chances to win three games, but at the interval all they had to show was a solitary goal.

Jamie Longley and Liam Garbutt were both superbly denied by Winsford goalkeeper Jamie Mottershead early on.

Ironically, after all his good work, it was Mottershead who gifted Colne the lead on 28 minutes when he misjudged the bounce from an Andy Hargreaves clearance and the ball slid under his body leaving Stephen Throup with the simplest of chances to open the scoring.

Colne continued to pile on the pressure but in spite of their superiority Anthony Harker and Garbutt both spurned good opportunities to increase the first half lead.

In the opening minute of the second-half, Colne continued to create. Shepherd released Garbutt through the middle, but he was unfortunate to see his effort rebound off the upright after having beaten Mottershead.

As the game progressed Winsford appeared to be getting stronger and they began to look like a different team.

And the home side levelled on 83 minutes when Stephen Siddell crossed for Darren Connell to head home at the near post.
