CARLOS Villanueva is planning on making Blackburn home “for years to come” as he bids to repay Paul Ince’s faith in him.

The Chilean international is currently at Ewood Park on a season-long loan but is already dreaming of earning a permanent contract in Lancashire – and in the process putting his country on the Premier League map.

The 22-year-old midfielder starred on his Rovers’ debut in the Carling Cup victory over Grimsby last month but has so far been forced to wait for his first Premier League appearance.

Now recovered from a bout of chickenpox, Villanueva is determined to make the most of his time in England to ensure it does not become just a temporary visit.

He said: “I was really happy with how my debut went and my main aim now is to keep performing to that same level.

“The fans really got behind me and I hope I sent them home with some good feelings. I want them to feel the club has signed a good player.

“My main goal this season is to get as many minutes as possible in the Premier League. At the moment I’m only here on loan but I’d love to stay here for many years to come.”

The South American made the switch from Audax Italiano in August and has revealed his gratitude to manager Ince for handing him a chance to realise his dreams.

“I always dreamed of playing in Europe and to play in the Premier League, which is the most important league in Europe,” he said. “It is an amazing feeling so I’m really glad to be here.

“I know there hasn’t been many players from Chile who have played in the Premier League before so it would be great to do well and get Chile recognised.

“My move has created a lot of interest back home and everyone seems happy that I’m here.

“Now I want to repay the manager for having the faith to bring me here by doing well for the club.”
