After failing to take advantage of several power-play opportunities, the Hawks were cruelly undone as they pressed for an opener.
Minutes later that deficit was then doubled, as poor defensive play allowed the Vipers forward to beat Adam Baxendale with ease.
The Vipers went 4-0 up before player/coach Wayne Slater finally pulled one back for the home side. The Vipers restored their four-goal lead early in the third period. Richard Bentham grabbed a late consolation.
