EARBY escaped the wooden spoon by winning one of the only two games played in the Veka Ribblesdale League Senior Division this weekend.

In a rain-reduced match at Read, Earby chased down their target of 160 to win by three wickets.

Read opener Nick Marsh made 80, with Earby’s pro Ali Azmat taking 5-87 before hitting 48 from 53 balls to help his side to only their sixth win of the season.

And that relegated Oswaldtwistle Immanuel to the bottom of the table after their fixture at Baxenden was abandoned.

Great Harwood finished their title-winning campaign on a high as they beat former champions Blackburn Northern by 52 runs.

Harwood’s pro, Syed Shahabuddin, finished with a bang as he smashed 53, in his side’s 161, before taking his tally for the season to 100 wickets with 5-62 as Northern were skittled for 108.

All issues have now been resolved with the exception of runners-up spot in Division Two.

Edenfield currently occupy second spot behind champions Feniscowles.

But third-placed Baxenden have lodged an appeal after their game at Brinscall was called off without mutual consent.
