NELSON came from behind twice before conceding defeat in a fast-paced game at Victoria Park.

Alsager took a shock lead after four minutes when Louis James found the top corner with a 25-yard shot out of the blue.

But Nelson stormed back with some great attacking moves, and levelled the scores on 32 minutes when Martin Payne headed home Alex Mugan’s looping cross.

The Blues failed to take advantage of further scoring chances and were punished just after half-time when Dean Clarke restored Alsager’s lead.

Chris Clarkson was Nelson’s main threat and he conjured an equaliser with a superb shot that went in off the underside of the crossbar on 65 minutes.

But as Nelson were having thoughts of going for the winner, they were hit by the sucker-punch on 78 minutes when their defence was drawn out of position, and a low cros gave Clarke an easy chance for the winner.
