ROSSENDALE United manager Derek Egan insists the FA Cup cash incentives are crucial for the Stags as they travel to face Woodley Sports in the first qualifying round.

United saw off Oldham Town after a replay in the previous round and, after an encouraging start to their UniBond Division One North campaign, Egan is confident of victory in Greater Manchester.

He said: “The prize money is always a big incentive for us. All the money goes back into the club, and if we can earn a few quid in the FA Cup, then great.

“We are certainly never going to win it. But last season, Harrogate Railway reached the second round proper and that was a massive thing for them.”

Rossendale’s tie has changed venue, to Vodkat Premier Division outfit Abbey Hey, as FA rules forbid Woodley’s synthetic pitch in cup competitions.
