FORMER Barcelona defender Philippe Christanval has been handed a three-day trial at Ewood Park – as Rovers remain active in their hunt for new recruits.

Christanval, 30, was due in Lancashire yesterday having been released from Fulham in the summer following an injury- plagued season.

He is the latest in a long line of triallists to arrive at Blackburn over the last few months but brings with him a wealth of experience.

The centre back began his career at Monaco in 1999, before being snapped up by Barcelona for £6.5million in June 2001.

Injuries disrupted the French international’s time at the Nou Camp and he moved on to Marseille, before switching to Fulham in 2005.

Renowned for his vision and passing ability, he made 36 appearances at Craven Cottage as injuries again thwarted his progress.

“Philippe has been offered a trial,” said Williams.

“He should be taking that up as we speak and it will be probably be for around three days.

“Like I have said before there is nothing concrete but being free agents if they do impress then we can sign them outside the transfer window.”
