Seven first-team players departed Ewood Park over the summer, but how are they getting on at their new clubs?

Ben Brereton

Scored 47 goals in 160 appearances for Rovers, also having some joy on the international stage after switching his allegiance to Chile.

Joined La Liga outfit Villarreal on a free transfer earlier this summer after his deal at Ewood Park had expired.

Has made three competitive appearances so far for the Yellow Submarine, including a cameo off the bench in a 4-3 defeat against European giants Barcelona.

Villarreal have won one of their opening four matches and head coach Quique Setien was sacked several days ago.

Bradley Dack

Another player who exited on a free transfer after his contract expired, having spent six years in East Lancashire.

Scored 57 times in 173 games for Rovers and has now reunited with Tony Mowbray at the Stadium of Light.

Has played five times so far for the Black Cats and got off the mark during the emphatic 5-0 victory against Southampton before the international break.

Mowbray’s side sit ninth in the Championship table at this early stage, having taken seven points from their opening five fixtures.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Featured in pre-season, although his Rovers future had been cast into doubt after Aynsley Pears got a run in the side during the final stages of last term.

Was snapped up by Luton Town ahead of their Premier League debut, with Leo Wahlstedt later joining the goalkeeping department at Ewood Park.

Has started all three of the Hatters’ matches in the top flight, although Rob Edwards’ side are yet to pick up their first point of the campaign following defeats against Brighton, Chelsea and West Ham.

Daniel Ayala

Spent three years at Ewood Park and made 58 appearances in total, having previously had spells at Middlesbrough and Norwich among others.

Departed after the conclusion of last season, having featured as a late substitute against Millwall on the final day.

Was understood to have options in the Championship earlier this summer but his next chapter is yet to be confirmed.

Ash Phillips

Enjoyed a rapid rise at Rovers, initially making his Under-21 debut as a 16-year-old and then stepping up to the first-team picture in a year.

Was signed by Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the new season, putting pen to paper over a five-year deal with the London club.

Has already made the bench at first-team level and has risen the pecking order following Davinson Sanchez’s move to Galatasaray.

Tayo Edun

Was made available for a move over the summer and was snapped up by League One Charlton on an initial two-year deal.

Has already made eight appearances for the Addicks and started the 4-3 defeat against Crawley in the EFL Trophy last time out.

Charlton have taken six points from their opening six games in the third tier and recently appointed Michael Appleton after Dean Holden’s sacking.

Dan Butterworth

Spent time on loan at Port Vale last season before Rovers confirmed he would be moving on at the end of his contract.

Joined Carlisle on a two-year deal in July as the Cumbrian club aim to build on their promotion from League Two.

Has played five times so far at Brunton Park, coming off the bench for the second half during the recent 1-0 defeat against Accrington in the EFL Trophy.
