ROVERS captain Ryan Nelsen insists he would not follow Mark Hughes out the door, should the Welshman leave Ewood Park for pastures new.

Hughes is being courted by Manchester City and Chelsea and the vultures are already circling Ewood Park in the hope of picking off the star players.

But Nelsen is confident there won't be a player exodus if Hughes does leave.

He said: "We're all contracted to Blackburn, it's as simple as that.

"We all love coming into work and we all love playing for the club.

"So we're really happy at what we do.

"I can't talk for other players about what they might want to do in the future, but I certainly know on the last day of the season we were all happy."

Hughes signed Nelsen from DC United in 2005 and the New Zealand international has been a mainstay in the Rovers defence.

The 30-year-old said: "What he's done for both me and Blackburn is incredible.

"He has made the players feel we could go even higher and that's why we were disappointed to come seventh in the Premier League.

"But there's a lot of bigger clubs who would have loved to finish that high, so we're looking to improve further next season.

"As far as I'm concerned, there's still unfinished business here."
