BURNLEY have admitted they are still interested in bringing Celtic striker Derek Riordan to Turf Moor.

The Clarets are believed to be in the driving seat for the 25-year-old's signature, after it was reported he has become increasingly unsettled at Parkhead.

Leeds United seem to pose the biggest threat, with manager Gary McAllister still keen to add Riordan to his squad, despite missing out on promotion from League One via the play-offs.

But Burnley aren't anti-cipating any movements in the transfer market, for any player, until later in the month.

"He is definitely of interest," confirmed operational director Brendan Flood of Riordan.

"It's exciting. There are people who want to come to Burnley and we want to get the best players.

"But Owen (Coyle) doesn't want to make decisions, necessarily, that will keep the newspapers selling.

"He is better making the right decision for the team, and he is being very selective."

Burnley have kept tabs on the once-capped Scotland front man since having a bid in the region of £400,000 turned down during the January transfer window.

Celtic have valued him at £1million, but Riordan, who has 12 months remaining on a three-year contract, could force the issue in an effort to achieve the first team football he craves.

Since being signed by Gordon Strachan from Hibernian in 2006, he has made only eight league starts and, in April, said: "I've virtually chucked it at Celtic. What's the point when I'm not getting a chance?

"I've been here two years and it's not happened yet so I don't see it happening now. I like it here and would love to prove myself but the nasty thing is not playing."

Although Burnley have been linked with a number of players both north and south of the border in the close season, Flood was reluctant to suggest how close manager Coyle was to completing his first permanent signing.

"We've put our best foot forward, and hopefully all the targets will be here in time for pre-season," he said.
