ANOTHER succcessful season in the Accrington and District Boys League is done and dusted.

The leagues have been won, the trophies lifted and the curtain was brought down on its 50th season at the presentation evening at King George's Hall.

But any notions of football being put on the back burner for the summer months are very much wide of the mark.

Teams will be busy recruiting, playing in summer tournaments and reporting back for pre-season training. As for the league and its hard-working committee, it is a case of taking a deep breath and starting all over again.

"The summer is our busiest time of the whole year," said league secretary Alan Greenwood. "We've got new teams to sort out, fixtures to arrange and pitches to book. Then there is our AGM and in between that, I have a holiday to try and fit in!"

After the long-slog of the league, the buzz of the cup finals came to Padiham FC and Clitheroe FC.

And there were three teams who scooped the highly sought after doubles' - two of them to Accrington Stanley sides.

Having already clinched the league title, Stanley Under Nines added the cup following a narrow 1-0 win against Huncoat United. Stanley underlined their domination of the younger age groups with the Under 10s completing the league and cup double, beating Great Harwood Rovers 3-0 in the final.

Burnley United under 13s with the other side to make it a double following a 4-0 win against Knuzden at Wilson's Playing Fields. All of the Under Nines to Under 14s cup finals where held at Padiham with Belvedere Juniors beating Brierclife Rovers 3-0 in the Under 14s final.

Belvedere were denied a cup double when the Under 15s lost to Readstone United 2-1 while Wilpshire Wanderers beat Pendle Forest 2-0 in the Under 16s final.
