BURNLEY'S assistant manager Sandy Stewart says the Clarets will leave no stone unturned in their search for new players.

The Turf Moor outfit have been busy trying to rebuild their squad in the close season with bids having been turned down for Scunthorpe's Martin Paterson and Dundee's Kevin MacDonald.

And the Clarets have been linked with a move for former Celtic left-back Stephen Crainey, who had a fine season with Clarets' Lancashire rivals Blackpool.

But Burnley's search for new blood isn't just restricted to these shores.

Talent scouts have been to deployed to all parts of the globe in the hope they can unearth a gem.

And Stewart tsaid hat Turf Moor chiefs would continue to search high and low to try and inject new life into the Clarets before next season.

He said: "We want players who will strengthen our team and we will spread our net far and wide to try and do that.

"The bids we have made have been in the Championship and in Scotland but we're looking beyond our shores as well.

"We've had chief scouts watching games in places like Europe and even South America trying to unearth a gem.

"We might come across a player who nobody has had any contact with. You never know.

"The manager will also be taking in a number of games at Euro 2008 to look at players.

"The top players will be coveted by the top clubs from the Premier League and across Europe, but there will be players that could interest us and the manager will be able to see them at first hand."
