Darwen failed to gain a single point from their opening game in the Northern League, losing by eight wickets at St Annes.

Darwen batted first and progressed confidently to 60 before professional Atif Ashraf became the first of Twist's five victims, being bowled for 37.

He was quickly followed by Chris Clarke, who had hit a confident 26 before he too was bowled by Twist.

The Darwen innings never really recovered from this double blow as they then crumbled to 127 all out, with only the budding Anwar (16) and the debutant Bhangi (5 not out) offering any real resistance.

The St Annes innings was dominated by Twist (68 not out) and Ormani (52 not out).

Darwen captain Andrew Cook said: "Iive never played cricket in such freezing conditions!"
