BOWLERS dominated the opening day of the Sponsorbank Lancashire League season.

In freezing conditions, Haslingden's David Bandy skittled out Todmorden with a nine-wicket haul, Shanon Stewart claimed eight wickets for East Lancs, while Accrington shocked Lowerhouse thanks to a devastating display by David Ormerod.

It was professional Bandy's figures that impressed though as Haslingden bowled out Todmorden for 59.

The Aussie took an incredible nine for 15 from his 12 over-spell.

The visitors strolled home with seven wickets to spare.

East Lancs followed up their victory over Rishton on Saturday with an eight-wicket win at Bacup.

The home side put 104 on the board in a rain-affected match, with Matt O'Connor returning to the side with an unbeaten 24.

But it was professional Stewart's bowling figures of eight for 32 that told the story of the game.

Andy Clague (51) and Dave Pearson (23) put the Worsley Cup holders in the driving seat, and Stewart supported with the bat too with an unbeaten 25 to see his side home.

Burnley claimed maximum points with a seven-wicket win over Church.

In the shock of the day, Accrington hammered Lowerhouse by 42 runs.

The perennial strugglers set a target of 130, and were never in trouble as Ormerod tore through the order with six for 56.

Champions Rishton shared the points with Nelson after both sides made 119.
