BLACKBURN Rovers' Turkish midfield ace Tugay is still waiting to hear if he will be offered a new contract for next season.

The veteran playmaker believes he can still play on at Premier League level for a further 12 months, and would dearly love one last swan-song in the top-flight before finishing his career at Blackburn.

However, Rovers boss Mark Hughes has yet to make the 37-year-old a firm offer, hinting he may delay any decision until nearer the end of the season.

The player's agent, Simon Munir, told the Lancashire Telegraph: "Tugay definitely wants to do another year, so the ball is in Blackburn's court.

"We've had preliminary talks (about a new contract) but we haven't received any offer as yet.

"Tugay feels he can still play on for another year in the Premier League, and he wants to stay and finish his career at Blackburn, so I would hope he still has a role to play."

Signed by Graeme Souness from Rangers for a bargain £1.3 million fee in 2001, Tugay has been an outstanding servant for Rovers, clocking up 256 appearances during his seven years with the club.

But, more recently, those appearance have become more and more sporadic, with the midfielder featuring in just six of Rovers' 13 matches since the turn of the year.

Hughes insists recent signing Johann Vogel has not been brought in as a direct replacement for the Turk, who remains hugely popular with Rovers' fan-base.

However, at Reading on Saturday, Vogel was given a place on the bench, whilst Tugay was left out of the 16 on duty altogether.

It may be that Hughes will delay making a final decision on the player's future until he has a clearer indication of his budget for next season.
