BURNLEY manager Owen Coyle has urged his players to pay no attention to the Championship table until the end of the season, when he hopes their efforts over the final five games will be enough to earn a top six finish.

Saturday's 2-1 win over Barnsley reduced the gap between the Clarets and the final play-off place by one point to three.

And it would have been as little as two had Charlton Athletic managed to avoid a last-minute defeat to Wolves in the late kick-off.

"What the table looks like doesn't concern me. What we're trying to do is go and win game on game," said Coyle.

"We stressed to the lads all week, and particularly on Saturday, the important thing was that we went and won and kept our season going, and that's what we've done.

"Anything other than a win wouldn't have been enough, I don't think, to keep ourselves involved where we'd like to be, and that's all we're doing.

"If we hadn't won, I think we'd have just been fighting about for mid-table, but that's not the case. It keeps everybody's interest alive.

"We're not making any claims because I really believe we need to win our last five games, because somebody will be on a run.

"We are capable of winning games. Whether we can do five together, which will make six, time will tell, but we're enjoying it."
