Two Radcliffe Athletic Club members completed the challenging Lakeland 50 ultra race.

Helen Andrew and Michelle Hincks took on the popular 50-mile event in the Lake District which has around 10,000ft of climbing.

Andrew finished in 13:09:52 in testing conditions while Hincks clocked 14:58:17 hot on the heels of completing the 108-mile Spine Challenger Race last month.

It is the second time that Hincks has completed the tough 50-mile course. She considered dropping out due to the soaring temperatures and said: “It was very hot and a bit of a struggle but the atmosphere and the volunteers on the race are great – they really pulled me through!”

A quartet of Radcliffe members took on the 11-mile Race the Train challenge. The aim was to beat the steam train on its journey along the East Lancashire Railway from the Bolton Street station in Bury to Rawtenstall.

All four RAC runners beat the train with Gary Adkins finishing 13th in 1:11:13. Matthew Smith ran 1:19:33, Chris Paxton 1:29:08 and Peter Hunter 1:31:17.

There was another win for Jenny Yates who was first FV55 in 21:10 at the Northern Masters 5,000m Track Championship at East Cheshire AC.

Julie Robertson was the club’s sole representative at the eight-mile Turnslack Fell Race, the third race in the Run The Moors Fell Grand Prix. She was first FVet 50 over the course which has 2,001ft of climbing.

Radcliffe members were out in force for the return of the 5k parkruns following the lifting of restrictions.

Steven Fawcett ran a PB of 24:17 at Heaton followed by Jenny Yates in 25:50, Peter Hunter 26:55, Emma Wolstencroft 31:36, Deborah Warrington 31:37, Jen Entwistle 37:13, Bev Quinton 38:44 and Charles Whalley 52:39.
