Six Bury athletes competed in the Sale Sizzler 5k, the third in a series of quality races.

First Bury finisher was Jack Griffiths who took an excellent 20th place in 16.25, just two seconds outside his personal best. Next was Paul Johnston who crossed the line in 17.58 to take 15th in the V40 category.

He was followed by Craig Sykes who took fifth in the V50 category with an excellent 18.13. Anthony Hallahan was next in, with 19.28.

Freya Potts took second in the junior women’s category with a performance of 20.19, with Caitlyn Johnston taking third junior lady position in 22.34.

Bury’s younger athletes competed in the Lower Age competition in the Youth Development League at Sportcity, taking an excellent third place behind Sale and Bolton.

The under 15 boys squad was comprised of Jayden Barlow, Thomas Donnelly and Finley Collings together with Samuel Gooddy making his debut. Collectively they competed in 12 events and took third in the 4x100m relay.

Gooddy made an impressive start for the club by winning the B javelin competition.

The under 15 girls team was stronger in numbers with victories going to Blessing Idoko (B 200m), Devonne Samuels (B hammer), Anna Gisbourne (A 800m), Corrine Newton (B 800m), Lola Potts (B high jump), Emily Purdy (A 1,500m), Lorena Hunter (B 1,500m) and Lucy Hill (A hammer and B javelin).

AAA grades were also achieved by Blessing (100 and 200), Anna (200 and 800) and Jemima Miles (75m hurdles and shot). The girls took third place in both the 4x100m and 4x300m relays.

Five boys represented the under 13s team with great debuts from Isaac Wride and Zain Younis.

Ben Clarke and Oliver Cooper won the A and B javelins respectively achieving AAA standards. Wride, Cooper and Clarke teamed up with Patrick Yates to perform well in the 4x100m relay, taking second place.

The under 13 girls team of Tia Buckley, Grace Foster, Phoebe Kalambouka-Hick, Summer Barlow and Evie Elliott covered six events between them.
