Preston boss Frankie McAvoy admits he was disappointed by last night’s defeat to Wanderers at the County Ground.

Gethin Jones got the only goal as the Whites continued their unbeaten start to pre-season despite being without several key players.

The North End boss – who formally took charge at Deepdale this summer after a spell in interim charge – says Bolton put his side on the back foot.

“I thought we started to lose our way a wee bit probably (with) about 15, 20 minutes to go at the end of the first half,” said McAvoy.

“We started to get a wee bit too spread. Tom (Bayliss) and young Lewis (Leigh) in the middle of the park started becoming a wee bit stretched.

“Our wing backs probably weren’t as high up the pitch as I was hoping we could get them up there. Bolton started to get a few opportunities and chances.”

On-loan winger Xavier Amaechi could miss the start of the season after damaging his metatarsal during the first half.

Jones also limped off following a reckless challenge from Lewis Leigh, but the defender is not understood to have an injury.

Ian Evatt’s men continue their pre-season preparations with a trip to Barrow on Saturday afternoon.
