Harry Chapman’s future looks increasingly like being away from Ewood Park.

Chapman was offered a new deal by Rovers after an impressive loan spell at Shrewsbury Town but it is expected that he will seek pastures new in a bid to find regular first-team football.

Shrewsbury are understood to be keen on a reunion with the 23-year-old, but are yet to make contact over the possibility of a move, and would anticipate plenty of competition from other League One clubs, a level where Chapman has excelled.

Rovers would be entitled to compensation due to his age and a contract offer being on the table, though only if that meets the same deal he was on previously after signing from Middlesbrough in January 2019.

Chapman failed to make a league start following that move, and fell behind Tyrhys Dolan in the pecking order, before being allowed to leave on loan in December, scoring seven times for the Shrews in the second half of the season.

That form has alerted other sides, including some north of the border, having previously had interest from Kilmarnock who tried to sign him on loan in January 2020.

The winger was a hit during a loan spell in 2017, cut short by two serious hamstring injuries, and returned on a two-and-a-half year deal in January 2019 but has made just 16 first-team appearances, turning out more regularly for the Under-23s.

Tony Mowbray said the plan was always for Chapman to spend time on loan in 2020/21, before confusion arose after the manager said the club had planned to take up the option in the winger’s deal, only for that to not be the case.

That led to Rovers revealing they were in talks over the possibility of an extended stay when releasing their retained list last month, but progress over that is understood to have been limited.

And it is looking increasingly like Chapman won’t be part of Rovers’ plans when they return to pre-season training later this month.

The same is likely with Elliott Bennett whose deal with the club is also up at the end of the month.

The 32-year-old, who made just two starts for the club in 2020/21, is considering his options as his time at Rovers looks to be at an end.

Bennett, who is based in Shropshire, was of interest to Shrewsbury in the January window.
