BEN Currie's new Warrington Wolves contract confirmation this week comes 10 years after he was first captured in Warrington Guardian photographs playing for the club.

Although he was only 16 at the time, Currie lined up in the second row for the Warrington Wolves under 18s Academy team against the touring Australian Institute of Sport under 19s side at Wilderspool Stadium on November 25, 2010.

Gary Chambers' young Wire outfit were only two weeks into their pre-season training campaign at that stage and therefore it was a big challenge to tackle the cream of Australia coached by former Warrington Wolves boss Brian Johnson.

And so it proved, with the Aussies - featuring current Leeds Rhinos back rower Rhyse Martin in the centres - running out 44-6 victors on a bitterly cold night.

Current Newcastle Knights utility back Kurt Mann, Brisbane Broncos centre Ritchie Kennar and former professional Australian rules footballer Jackson Merritt were among Currie's opponents on that occasion.

Teammates who went on to play in Warrington Wolves' first team were Jordan Burke, who scored young Wire's only try, Gene Ormsby, Brad Dwyer and Glenn Riley.

Interestingly Dwyer - now a hooker at Leeds Rhinos - featured at stand-off.
