TWO former Blackburn Rovers players have joined Chorley.

Adam Henley and Willem Tomlinson could both make their debuts for the National League North Magpies at Hereford on Saturday.

The pair are products of the Ewood Park system and boss Jamie Vermiglio believes he has snapped up two free agents who will improve his squad.

“Adam has been training with us for a few weeks and has shown great athleticism, improving fitness and a strong desire to be involved,” he told the Chorley website.

“Will is a midfielder with lots of energy and good quality.

“He’s determined to make an impact and without doubt brings added quality and another option to our squad.

“Both players bring a lot of Football League experience and impressive references.

“I’m hoping they can help to raise our standards further as we continue to improve as a squad.”

Full back Henley made nearly 100 appearances for Rovers in the Premier League and Championship, as well as appearing twice for Wales in the lead up to Euro 2016.

An 18-month spell with Real Salt Lake in Major League Soccer followed, before 27 games in League Two with Bradford City last season. The 26-year-old said: “I’m really grateful to the manager for giving me the opportunity to get back on the pitch. I’m excited to be here and can’t wait to get started.”

Tomlinson spent the last couple of years with League Two Mansfield, appearing 35 times for the Stags.

The 22-year-old midfielder was most recently playing closer to home with Padiham in the North West Counties League as he searched for a club higher up the pyramid.

He had spent some of pre-season with Accrington Stanley.

“I’m really happy to have signed with Chorley and I can’t wait to get back playing and start enjoying my football again,” Tomlinson said.
