WANDERERS have received warning from police in Barrow of potential trouble before their League Two clash tomorrow night.

A letter was received by Bolton secretary, Simon Marland, from the local constabulary urging the club to be aware of planned crowd gatherings outside Holker Street.

The game sees the return of Ian Evatt, who quit Barrow in the summer to join Wanderers just weeks after the Cumbrian club’s promotion to the Football League was confirmed.

Speaking to The Bolton News, Evatt said he was “disappointed” by the news but that he had no ill-feeling towards the club he helped to reinvent over the course of two seasons.

“I had a wonderful time at Barrow, a magical time, and I would hate to think that it would be spoiled by anything unpleasant,” he said.

“From what I can gather the police up there have sent a letter to us informing that some people are planning a welcome party, and to be careful.

“As with any walk of life I think the minority tend to shout loudest and I’d expect that it would only be a small number of people who feel they would have to do that. The majority would be happy with what we gave to the club.

“From my point of view, I have nothing but good things to say about my time there – the players, staff, the board and the supporters, it was a fantastic experience and I was very, very proud of what we achieved there.

“Leaving was difficult but it was a career decision, I felt I had to back myself. And the club were well rewarded for that, financially.

“We have all moved on and I would hate to think the behaviour of a minority would change that.”

Wanderers are understood to have paid a six-figure fee to bring Evatt to the University of Bolton Stadium as Keith Hill's successor at the start of July.

The former Blackpool and QPR defender helped the Bluebirds to the National League title, restoring league football for the first time in 48 years.
